The instrument

The Fender Vibrafone speaker has a Leslie effect. This is not surprising, as Fender was bought by the CBS company in 1965, which also owned Leslie. The Vibrafone of the smem belongs to the original series with "blackface", which was only sold from 1967-1968. 1968-1972 "silverface" followed. The Vibrafone was essentially transferred to the Leslie Model 16, which appeared in 1970.

Details

Like the Leslies, the Vibratone contains a rotating drum mounted in front of a 4-ohm speaker, and like most Leslies, the Vibratone has two speeds, dubbed chorale (slow) and tremelo (fast).  The chorale speed is about 40 revolutions per minute, while the tremelo is about 340 rpm.  The chorale effect is a slow kind of sound.  It can wash over the whole tonality of the instrument, depending upon how it's miked.  On the other hand, the tremelo effect is a fast effect.
