The instrument

The Sequential Circuits Six-Trak, released in 1984, is a compact and affordable polyphonic analog synthesizer. It was one of the first multitimbral synthesizers and allowed each of its six voices to be played independently via MIDI. It is used by Überzone and Cirrus.

Details

The Sequential Circuits Six-Trak features six voices, each equipped with a single Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) capable of generating sawtooth, triangle, and pulse waveforms. It includes a 24dB/octave resonant low-pass filter and ADSR envelope generators. One of the standout features of the Six-Trak is its built-in 6 channels sequencer, which allows users to create and store up to 800 notes, providing extensive sequencing capabilities for live performance and studio production.

The Six-Trak's multitimbral functionality, enabled by its advanced MIDI implementation, allows each of its six voices to be controlled independently. This feature is particularly useful for creating complex, layered compositions and integrating the synthesizer into larger MIDI setups. The instrument also includes a programmable arpeggiator and the ability to stack voices for a thicker, richer sound.

The control panel features a numeric keypad and a LED display for navigating and programming sounds. Despite its compact size, the Six-Trak offers a wide range of sound design possibilities, from lush pads and punchy basses to intricate sequences and arpeggios.
