Sequential Circuits Prophet-10 Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer
The instrument
The Sequential Circuits Prophet-10, released shortly after the Prophet-5, is essentially a double version of the Prophet-5, offering ten voices of polyphony. This expansion made the Prophet-10 even more powerful, allowing for more complex and layered sounds while retaining the same architecture and sound quality as the Prophet-5. Notable users include Vangelis and Keith Emerson, who utilized its rich, expansive sound in their compositions.
Details
The Prophet-10 features ten voices, each with two Voltage-Controlled Oscillators (VCOs), providing a similar waveform selection as the Prophet-5. It includes the same 4-pole resonant low-pass filter and ADSR envelope generators. The main difference lies in its dual-layer structure, which allows for more complex sound layering and split-keyboard functionalities. The Prophet-10 also features an expanded patch memory, capable of storing more presets than the Prophet-5, enhancing its usability for live performances and studio work.
