Jen SX-2000 Synthetone Analog Monophonic Synthesizer
The instrument
Jen Elettronica produced the analogue SX-2000 Synthetone 1978-1982. It was also built into the C-450 Carousel Synthetone Organ (1978).
Jen was founded in Pescara, Italy in 1969 and soon became a major producer of guitar effects pedals and eventually also produced pianos and synthesisers and made products for Vox, Gretsch and others. Known for their successful wah-wah pedal "Cry Baby", Jen developed sophisticated instruments as the Syntar GS-3000, one of the world's first guitar synthesisers.
Details
The SX2000 is a monophonic synth with 7 presets, designed to sit on top an organ, which explains its drawbar-like sliders. Its controls are in front of the keyboard, also to provide access from atop an organ. The SX2000 features a single VCO, switchable between four octaves (32', 16', 8', 4') and four waveforms (sawtooth, square, and two rectangular waveforms). Portamento is also available. The VCF has controls for cut-off frequency and emphasis (resonance). Both the VCF and VCA are switchable between three preset envelope settings, repeat (which constantly repeats AD envelope), ASR (with sustain), and AD (without sustain), with knobs for attack and decay/release. The LFO is switchable between square or triangle waveforms, with sliders for intensity and speed. The LFO can control the VCO or VCF. Available presets are synthy, harpsichord, flute, clarinet, violin, trumpet and piano. (source: Synthmuseum)
