Binson Echorec 2 T7E Tube Echo
The instrument
Binson began producing echo devices in 1955. To minimise the wear and tear of tape echoes, company founder Bonfiglio Bini and engineer Scarano Gaetano developed a steel disc-shaped drum to replace the tape. This rotating, magnetised disc is driven by a motor and is fitted with various sound heads on the sides for recording and playback. This is why these devices are referred to as drum or disc echoes. The Echorec 2 T7E appeared in 1962, after the already successful Echorec 2 T5E from 1958.
Details
The Binson Echorec works on the principle of analogue sound recording. The sound signal of the connected musical instrument is recorded by the recording head on a magnetisable metal disc with a diameter of around 10 cm. By rotating the metal disc, the recorded signal reaches the playback head with a time delay. The echo effect is created by mixing the time-delayed playback signal with the original signal.
