Arp Instruments Little Brother Analog Synthesizer Expander Model 2952
The instrument
The Little Brother is a keyboardless monophonic expansion module that was sold as an add-on to another ARP synthesizer. It is controlled by connecting it to anARP synthesizer. It was often sold with the ARP Axxe and was included free with the purchase of an ARP Odyssey during a promotion in the summer of 1976.
Details
The Little Brother had a single voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with selectable waveforms and a sub-octave divider that could generate up to three additional tones simultaneously in -1, -2 and -3 octave intervals. It also had an LFO and a pitch bend/master tuning control. An LFO could only be used for the vibrato. It had no voltage-controlled filter (VCF), no voltage-controlled amplifier (VCA) and no envelope generator (EG or ADSR). By connecting ARP synthesizers, an additional VCO and LFO could be indirectly added to the system. The special feature of the Little Brother is that four sound systems can be triggered individually or together and the sawtooth and square waveforms can be played in any combination in three different widths.
