The instrument

The AXXE was a rather inexpensive monophonic synthesizer produced by Arp to complement the slightly older Odyssey. It is equipped with a three-octave keyboard, the standard for a monosynth from the mid-70s, and with just one VCO, one LFO, one VCF and one ADSR envelope generator. The AXXE was produced in several series of modules until 1981. The appearance in particular has changed.

Details

The Axxe is equipped with a three-octave keyboard, the standard for a monosynth from the mid-70s. The VCO can be modulated by the LFO with sine and square wave options, the ADSR envelope generator and sample & hold. It offers triangle and square waveforms as well as noise. The low-pass VCF has frequency and resonance controls and can be set to self-oscillate to generate a sine wave. In addition to the LFO and ADSR envelope, an externally connected pedal, keyboard CV or S&H can also influence the filter as a modulation source, while the VCA serves as a volume control for the entire synthesizer. The ADSL is a four-stage element for attack, decay, sustain and release.
