The instrument

Korg launched the O1/W series of workstation synthesizers in 1991 as the successor to the M1 and T series. In addition to the O1/W, which was only available until 1994, the 01/W FD, the O1/W PRO, the O1/W PRO X and the rack versions O1R/W, O3R/W and O5R/W were also available. The technology is based on AI2 (Advanced Integrated Squared), an improved version of the AI (Advanced Integrated) synthesis technology found in the M1. The sound generation is almost identical, but 16/32-voice instead of 8/16-voice, and there are more samples in the 6 MB ROM, including 254 different vibration shapes/multisamples and 118 drum sounds. The instruments also have two effect processors and a built-in sequencer.

Details

The Korg O5R/W workstation is the smallest rack version of the O1/W series. It is a half-rack module with the sound generation of the 01/W, but without card slots. The features are 6 MB sample ROM with 32-voice polyphony, two effect processors and a host adapter. It is General MIDI compatible. In addition to the 128 GM sounds including 8 drum kits, over 100 different drum sounds can be called up. The memory organization comprises 100 individual and 100 combination programs. In accordance with the GM specification, the 05 R/W is 16-fold multitimbral. Since 1994, the 05 R/W has been sold on diskette (for Atari ST) together with 300 sounds. (Source: amazona)
