E-mu Systems Drumulator Sample Based Drum Machine
The instrument
The E-mu Drumulator was the first low-cost drum computer with sampling. It was used in low-cost productions, making it one of the best-known drum computers of the 1980s. 10,000 units were sold.
E-mu Systems offered the Pad Programmer as an add-on to the Drumulator, with which drum sounds could be recorded with drum sticks just like on a drum kit.
Details
The Drumulator offers twelve drum sounds that can be controlled via four pads on the device, the internal sequencer or external devices. The sounds are digital 12-bit samples. The machine can be switched between drum and percussion modes. The drumulator also has an integrated metronome. The following sounds are included: Drums with bass, snare, rim, hi tom, mid tom, lo tom; percussion with clavé, cowbell, claps, hi hat open, hi hat closed, cymbal.
Rhythms can be programmed with the internal sequencer. The volume and accentuation of the samples can be determined. The drumulator offers 36 memory locations for segments and eight memory locations for songs. It can be synchronized with other instruments using clock sync.
