The instrument

The Crumar Composer is an analog paraphonic synthesizer. It combines a solo synth, a poly synth, an organ and strings. It has a 49-notes-keyboard (C-C, Do-Do). According to estimates, Crumar produced only 400-600 units of the Composer between 1982 and 1986. 

Details

The mono synth featured seven presets(trombone, clarinet, guitar, oboe, lead 1 and 2, flute); envelope generator with attack, decay, sustain; filter with envelope amount, cut-off, resonance; waveform selection with sawtooth, triangle, square, pulse 25%, pulse; footages 32', 16', 8', 4'; pitch control; portamento; touch vibrato with sensivity control; pitch bending with a range of 1/5' up and 1/5' down; solo breath control. It can be mixed with the polysynth. The poly synth featured three presets, two oscillators and a modulation wheel. The organ section featured four presets, two percussion types with volume and decay controls. The string section has 16' and 8' voices, crescendo, sustain and timbres rotary controls. And there is a voice mixer section with master, solo synth, poly synth, string and organ separate slide volume control. The Composer uses the same CEM chip to VCA, filters and envelope as the Memory Moog, Oberheim OBX, OBXa / OB8 and SCI Prophet 5.
