The instrument
The MKS-10 PLANET-P is a 16-voice, analog piano sound generation module in 19-inch format with 2 height units. It can be operated externally with the Roland PG-200 programmer. The MKS-30 Planet-S, a MIDI rack module version of the JX-3P, had already been released in 1983. Together with the MKS-10, the Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter, a revised version of the Jupiter-8, was released in 1984.
Details
The MKS-10 Planet-P is 16-times polyphonic. The eight sounds, 2x piano, 2x clavinet, 2x harpsichord, 2x electric piano, cannot be combined or mixed, the MKS-10 is monotimbral. The sound is generated via DCO, but the enveloping and the subsequent filters with IR3109 VCF chips are analog. The effects are set in two blocks, chorus/flanger and tremolo sawtooth/rectangle. They cannot be combined with each other, but can be combined in blocks. There are 16 unchangeable presets available, 8 of which can be selected on the MKS-10, 8 of which can only be switched via MIDI program change.
