The instrument

The Wurlitzer 140 Electronic Piano appeared in 1962, the 140A from 1963 and the 140B from 1964 were variants with minor modifications.  They followed the first series of Wurlitzer electric pianos, which began in 1954 with the 110 model. These models were equipped with an internal tube amplifier, a rear speaker and tremolo. A transistor amplifier was built into the Models 140, 140A and 140B for the first time. The cases are made of wood or fibreboard. The keyboard has 64 keys. Around 8000 units were sold.

Details

In the Wurlitzer electric piano mechanism, which is modelled on the piano, a hammer strikes a metal reed, the vibration of which is picked up by an electrostatic pickup.
