The instrument

Korg only released its first tape echo unit, the SE-500, in 1977, four years after its direct competitor Roland and its Space Echo RE-100. 1978 saw the launch of the SE-300, which offered a spring reverb and very flexible mixing and routing options between the signal and the reverb tank. However, at the same time Roland was waiting with the first BBD chip-based analogue echoes DC-30 and DC-50, which heralded the end of tape echoes.

Details

The mixing options of the SE-300 are
Reverb input balance control to adjust the relative amount of reverb applied to the direct sound signal and the echo playback signal.
Effect balance control to adjust the balance between the echo and reverb effects
Output balance control for final adjustment of the balance between the direct signal and the effect signal with the addition of echo and / or reverb.
Speed control to adjust the time delay between echos.
Treble and bass to adjust tone quality of the effect signal.
