The instrument
The Clavinet-Pianet-DUO appeared in 1977 and combined the two successful electro-mechanical instruments as the conclusion of the series. Both instruments are played with the same 60 keys for 5 octaves. Switching is done by a foot switch. Both can be connected to their own amplifiers via sockets. Rockers and a rotary control allow the two instruments to be mixed. The tone colours can be influenced with rocker switches. A-B and C-D switch the two pick-ups individually or in parallel. Brilliant, Trubel, Medium and Soft serve for the tone colours of the clavinet. With a slider on the right jaw, a mute can be switched on for a dry, dull tone.
Details
Both instruments are electro-mechanical. The clavinet is played via strings. The keystroke produces mechanical vibrations that are electrified via magnetic pickups and conducted to the amplifiers. On the Pianet, the same process is generated with metallic, magnetised reeds and electrifying coils connected to the amplifier. The clavinet is retuned via tuning pegs.
