The instrument
The PR-40 is a tone cabinet speaker from Hammond's own production. The company originally refused to adopt the speakers offered by Leslie. The PR-40 is equipped with two 15“ speakers for bass and two 12” speakers for treble.
Details
The PR-40 has reverb springs and is triple amplified. A bass amplifier drives two 15“ speakers for organ tones below a frequency of 200 Hz, a treble amplifier drives the lower 12” speaker for organ tones above 200 Hz, and a treble amplifier drives the 12” speaker for organ tones above 200 Hz.Two separate speaker channels emit the original and reverberant organ tones separately, creating a reverberation. The Tone Cabinet produces a polyphonic vibrato. Controls allow the reverberation, treble and bass to be adjusted.
