The instrument

The CP 25 piano with 61 keys is a successor model to the CP 20 and CP 30 pianos from Yamaha. In addition to the piano sounds (presets) of the earlier models, it has the option of changing the sound with filters, envelopes and effects. This makes both percussive and pad sounds possible. The CP 25 is an electronic piano with an analogue tone generator and can also be described as an analogue synthesiser. The frequencies of the tones are generated with the help of counter ICs; the resulting square waves are then converted into analogue signals with a sound similar to a piano. (Wikipedia)

Details

The mode switch determines the number of notes output simultaneously. In dual mode, 2 sound channels with a maximum of 8 simultaneous notes are in operation; in single mode, 1 sound channel with a maximum of 16 notes is in operation. Pitch controls I and II adjust the pitch of channels I and II and produce a honky-tonk piano-like sound. The decay controls I and II can be set to eight different positions. The pitch, tone and balance of the two channels can be used to create different combinations of decay times with the decay controls. Four basic waveforms can be selected. Filter selectors allow four filter types to be applied to the waveform: a low-pass filter, a low-pass filter with a higher cutoff frequency, a band-pass filter and a high-pass filter. There is also a 5th and 8th selector, tremolo, tremolo depth, tremolo switch, flanger switch, balance and equaliser. (Yamaha Manual)
