Music form the ether

An afternoon proposed by Coralie Ehinger & Charly Hobbs

Created in Russia between 1919 and 1920, the Theremin or "Theremin" is one of the oldest electronic instruments. It marks the beginning of the electronic music era. Its particularity is to be played without physical contact with the musician. The sound of the Theremin is used today in cinema, experimental and popular music. Learning it is easy, mastering it a real challenge!

The smem invites the interested public to learn to play this fascinating instrument. The 1.5 hour introductory course is offered by Charly Hobbs. Charly Hobbs, who built this instrument in New York and is now based in Fribourg, will teach you the basics of the theremin and how to play this fascinating instrument. Each participant will have a theremin, some of them from the smem collection.

The Lausanne-based artist Coralie Ehinger will take her audience to listen and understand the playing of the Theremin during an educational concert illustrated by images and interspersed with explanations, notably on her use of the Theremin as a controller to modulate synthesizers.  An international specialist of this instrument, she transmits her passion through movements and sounds that reveal this marvel sometimes forgotten by the general public.
