Roland SH-2 Analog Synthesizer
The instrument
With its two OSCs, the Roland SH-2 is one of the best SH synthesizers from Roland. It has a 3-octave keyboard, two oscillators and a sub-oscillator. It has been used by many artists, including Depeche Mode, The Human League, New Order, Duran Duran, Groove Corporation, Eat Static, OMD, Men Without Hats, and the Eurythmics. At two and a half octaves, the comparable SH-1 is more compact than the SH-2 and is equipped with only one oscillator and one sub-oscillator as well as two envelopes.
Details
The two oscillators are equipped with octave selector switches and the oscillation modes sawtooth, square, PWM as well as sine (VCO-1) and noise (VCO-2). There is also a sub-oscillator, which is always one octave below VCO-1 and generates a square wave. The signal then passes through the 24 dB (4-pole) low-pass filter (VCF). A low-frequency oscillator (LFO) can be adjusted in tempo, delay and intensity to the respective synthesis group (pitch, pulse width, filter cut-off frequency) and control the envelope curve.
