Dr. Böhm FnT Electronic Transistor Organ

The instrument

Dr. Böhm designed various organ models using the new “nT system” transistor technology. The FnT was the first three-manual electronic organ in Europe. The FnT has three five-octave manuals with 61 keys and a pedal with 30 keys as well as 58 stops. It has 9 choirs and sine drawbars, reverb, pedal resonance, sustain, synthemat, Hawaiian effect, chorus vibrato, formant glissando and special effects with percustain. The Böhm organs were offered for self-build until the 1990s.

Details

The FnT organ has analog tone generation. The highest of the 12 semitones comes from an original recording, the lower octaves are created by frequency division in a ratio of 2:1 via synchronized flyback oscillators. It can be played at different musical temperatures, as each of the twelve semitones is tuned individually via a main oscillator. The tone generators consist of germanium transistors for 8 octaves and sawtooth. Amplifier and loudspeaker are built in.
